Quirky Grandma Newsletter

Newsletter

Don't you hate getting an email alert every time someone posts to a blog in your email? Sometimes, I can get as many ten emails from the same blog. I don't send that many emails a day. As a matter fact, I don't send that many in a week.

However, I am not willing to annoy people in order to drive traffic to my page. Instead I am offering my subscribers the option of signing up for a weekly newsletter instead.

I have received numerous newsletters but I had no idea where to start. So I started searching. I found numerous sites that tell you about online marketing with newsletters.

In How to Create an Email Newsletter From Your Blog, Brian Massey talks about selecting the best email service that will let you “brand your newsletter” rather than simply send alerts, as Feedburner does. He, also, mentions a couple options; Aweber and MailChimp.

Upon further research into these sites, I discovered that Aweber cost $19.00 a month but does offer its first month for $1.00. However, MailChimp allows you to send 12,000 to 2,000 subscribers for free. With only 2 subscribers at the moment. I felt this was the best way to go.

I created my lists and quickly inserted the sign up form to all of my blogs.  In one day, I have one more subscriber. Next, came creating a template to be used for continuity and brand recognition. I find it important to customize to match your blog, don’t you agree?

Needless to say, tomorrow is my first campaign. With only three people, I could probably send it myself. However, I think I will let MailChimp do the work. I am hoping that soon it will pay off.
